It’s not exactly the same – luckily-, but good news for anyone who thinks back with nostalgia to the time when telephones were still ‘dumb’ and unbreakable. The Nokia 6310 is making a comeback. It is not quite the same phone, because the new XR20 is a smartphone with a curved screen. However, you operate the device with buttons.
The old school Nokia 6310
Nokia knows it really came into its own when it comes to phones in the late 90s, early 00s. Almost everyone had a Nokia. So it’s no wonder that the company likes to refer back to that golden age. It does this by occasionally remaking a classic device, such as the Nokia 6310. The new device is called Nokia 6310 (the same name) and it comes with the necessary modern gadgets.
Think of a 2.8 inch curved screen, a numeric keyboard (real buttons), 8MB RAM, 16MB storage memory and a 0.3 megapixel camera. It even has an FM radio so you can listen to music. The battery life, however, is where this retro phone really shines: you can go weeks ahead with the 1,150 mAh battery. This is unthinkable in today’s mainstream smartphones, but the new Nokia 6310 is capable of this in its simplicity.
The design of this new Nokia doesn’t look very much like the 6310, because it was a bit more business-like and looked more like a cordless phone for the home than a mobile phone. The new 6310 is playful with cheerful colors, versus the 6310 which had a more business look. However, there is one important similarity that a Nokia phone must have: Snake. You can play for hours on it, because Snake is still one of the best phone games ever made. Moreover, it has a nice price of 40 euros.
The rugged Nokia XR20
Nokia has announced more phones, namely the XR20, a rugged smartphone that is IP68 water and dust resistant. It is made to the MIL-STD-810H standard, which means you can throw it in the water without breaking it. The device has a 6.67-inch screen with a 13 or 48 megapixel camera and an 8 megapixel self-camera. You can choose from 4 or 6 GB of RAM, 64 or 128 GB of storage memory and the phone lasts about a day and a half with its 4,630 mAh battery. This one is a bit more expensive and costs 499 euros.
The low-budget Nokia C30
The new C30 is a phone that you shouldn’t overthink, but that can last up to three days with its thick 6,000 mAh battery. The phone has a 6.82-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. However, with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, you can do much of what you would expect from a modern smartphone. All that for 99 euros.
